Jazz-Band aus: WORLDS OF MUSIC

Der Begriff "Band" bzw. "Gruppe" ist im Jazz unscharf und kann verschiedene Besetzungen bezeichnen.

Die wichtigste Besetzung des Jazz ist bis heute die Big Band, die wie ein Orchester aufgebaut ist. Eine kleinere Formationen ist die Jazz-Combo, in der jede Stimme der Big-Band nur einmal vertreten ist. Daneben gibt es im Jazz Trios, Quartette, Quintette, Sextette und Oktette.
Typisch für Jazzbands ist die Unterteilung in Melodiegruppe (Melody section) und Rhythmusgruppe (Rhythm section).
